Arctic Monkeys started in 2002 and became world famous thanks to the Internet; in fact, it was one of the first bands known thanks to this media source, and critics and bloggers put them as an example of how bands could take advantage of the new technologies.
Later, the group would sign a contract with Domino Records with excellent results for both parts: their first single "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" went straight to number one in the UK hit lists, and their second single, today's musical recommendation "When the Sun Goes Down" followed the same path to the top of the charts.
Let's stop to analyze this marvel for a second: an "unknown" band like the Arctic Monkeys, with little to none support by a record label, having done mosf ot their promotion through the Internet, had been able to get to the British #1... twice! Change was coming to the music industry...
...Although it seems like it really never arrived: every time that a new artist stands out on the Internet, sooner or later there's a moment in which he/she/they will need the support of media and a label in order to continue progressing.
But that's another story. To listen to more songs like "When the Sun Goes Down", don't miss the album in which it is included: "Whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not" (2006) and read the special post that JesusR wrote about it.
